Open Homes

Small-scale gatherings for large-scale fellowship

Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He Who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10: 23-24 ESV

Oftentimes, Sunday mornings are so full, they lack opportunity for intentional fellowship. But knowing we are called to gather together, we didn’t want to neglect it. Consequently, in 2021, we started dreaming of ways to knit our church community together,

Going back to our roots where, in 1973, a group of hippies gathered for worship in founding pastor Bill Thrall’s living room, we re-imagined that happening today. What if a hand full of Open Door attendees gathered in a home for fellowship?

Thus, this ministry called “Open Home Communities” was born. Every year, several households volunteer to host a handful of Open Door people in their home once a month for an entire year. Meeting on the first Sunday of every month, groups gather to eat supper, study Scripture, and build relationships together with the people in their assigned Open Home Community.
